This is otherwise known as Venison pie from the Gordon Ramsay’s “Healthy appetite” cookbook. One thing is for sure… This pie will cause some serious appetite disorders! I refer to the delicious taste of course!
Apart from the pictures it is probably worthwhile to mention that you simmer the meat and veggies for 45 minutes in the pan and, once assembled, the pie stays in the oven only 20-25 minutes. The recipe might seem complicated but it is the easiest and most ingenious thing if you imagine a fridge full of leftovers. Heat the leftovers, top them with the mashed yam, egg and cheese mixture (for this recipe the hard stinky Gruyere cheese is recommended… just kidding, it is not stinky at all, it’s actually quite nice) and stick this slop into the oven for 20-25 minutes. Voila! You quickly have zero waste and a delicious pie.
What I am trying to say is this particular recipe can be broken into two parts. Firstly, a beef bourguignon (sort of), which you can make the day before and even eat separately if you wish. Secondly, the coronation with the yam mixture. Again, it doesn’t matter what you coronate as long as there is a feast at the end of the ceremony. Now that is a chef made easy!
